Royal Palm Gives Event
The holiday season means giving but it doesn’t have to mean giving money. You can donate your no-longer-needed stuff to support worthy causes. Goodwill brings their truck to the park and pays Royal Palm Neighborhood (RPN) by the pound for donations. That money goes right back to RPN for festivals, movies, and other neighborhood events. You win by giving, Goodwill wins by receiving, and RPN wins by earning money.
For best results at clearing the clutter, start collecting items far in advance. Start early. The more you do, the more you’ll find.
Go for the low-hanging fruit first by grabbing a box and quickly going through the house to gather “no-brainers”. Clean if necessary and set aside in a labeled donations box. If its not complete, broken or not in working condition, pitch it. Charities do not repair items.
To clear closets and bigger areas, get ready. Have a trash can, a recycle bin, a shred box, and a labeled donation box handy. Clean and box items as you go. Start in one spot and methodically go around. If you get distracted easily, choose 2 spots and ping-pong between them. If this still proves difficult, have a friend help out. An occasional “really?” can be motivational.
Plan manageable clean-out sessions so you don’t get burned out. Take time to appreciate the progress you’ve made. Empty trash and recycle bins to outdoor bins daily. Set aside labeled donations boxes of items as you go.
